It’s kind of interesting that almost every time you see someone highlighted on TV as having succumbed to COVID-19, the person is young and (ostensibly) in good physical condition. Well, that may be what sells TV adds, but that is certainly not representative of the situation! By far, most people who get seriously sick after contracting the virus are people with at least one pre-existing condition. And that’s important because ALL these conditions can be alleviated to a great extent by lifestyle – making healthy choices like getting the right nutrition, moving regularly and vigorously, de-stressing, and keeping away from cigarettes and excess alcohol. In fact, it’s not age itself that is a risk factor but the simple fact that the pre-existing condition of note tend to be more common in older folks that underlie the correlation of disease severity with age.
I share this with you, friends, not to suggest that a healthy lifestyle is the equivalent of a vaccine against C-19, but only to say it greatly reduces your chances of getting severely ill from the disease. So, let’s keep up our collective guard by doing the public healthy things – social distancing, wearing masks, and washing hands, but let’s also take care of our bodies the way the good Lord intended us to. As the Word says, ” So honor God with your body”.
